Trypanosoma brucei species are motile protozoan parasites which are cyclically transmitted by tsetse fly (genus Glossina) inflicting human sleeping illness and nagana in livestock in sub-Saharan Africa. African trypanosomes show digenetic life cycle phases within the tsetse fly vector and of their mammalian host. Experimental work on insect-stage trypanosomes is difficult due to the problem in establishing profitable in vitro cultures. Subsequently, there’s restricted data on the trypanosome biology throughout its growth within the tsetse fly. Consequently, this limits the event of recent methods for blocking parasite transmission within the tsetse fly.
